Edna Adan Ismail

Edna Adan Ismail is a nurse midwife, activist, and the director and founder of the Edna Adan Maternity Hospital in Hargesia, Somaliland. She is a global champion and a pioneer in the struggle for the abolition of female genital mutilation. Ismail’s many accomplishments include serving as the World Health Organization’s Regional Technical Officer for Mother and Child Health, as Somaliland’s Minister of Family Welfare and Social Development, and as the first female Foreign Minister of Somaliland. Ismail received the French Legion of Honor in 2010 and was named the Templeton Prize Laureate in 2023.

The presentation and discussion will take place in the WCHP Lecture Hall from 6:30-8 p.m.
